Ferlin McGaskey

Assistant Director 

Ferlin G. McGaskey is the assistant director of the Teaching and Learning Center. After becoming the assistant director in 2013, Dr. McGaskey co-designed and now directs TLC’s Graduate Teaching Certification Program. Dr. McGaskey also serves as the administrative co-leader of UT’s Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning (CIRTL).

Dr. McGaskey earned a master’s degree in Economics and a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration, both from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Before joining TLC as the assistant director, Dr. McGaskey worked as a postdoctoral researcher at UT Knoxville and the University of Texas-Austin.

His research interests include the academic, personal, and professional experiences of graduate students, with an emphasis on international students and students of color. Dr. McGaskey has been directly involved in writing and securing national research grants. He is a Southern Regional Education Board Scholar, as well as a member of the American Educational Research Association, the Association for the Study of Higher Education, and the Association of Institutional Research.
